Headaches, back pain, high blood pressure, even stress. A vast majority of people experience these everyday aches and pains, and seek quick, easy ways to minimize or even temporarily treat them. However, what most don’t realize is in doing this, you are only focusing on the symptom and not addressing the cause. In order to accurately “treat” a symptom, you must first understand why it is occurring in the first place. This is where neurologically-based chiropractic care comes in.
More common than not, we cover up our health issues through medication or surgeries to ease any pain or discomfort. This can help for a while, but what happens if your symptoms or pain just keep coming back - even with treatment?
For example, you get a headache, so you take ibuprofen to dull the pain. Then tomorrow you get another headache, so you take more ibuprofen. Then another the next day and the next. So, was the medication correcting the cause or just simply masking the symptoms OF the cause? In this example, the ibuprofen is masking the symptom, by easing the pain versus working on finding the source and correcting it.
Neurologically-based chiropractic care helps treat your pain at the source. While traditional chiropractic focuses on the muscles and bones, neurologically-based chiropractic takes a unique approach by addressing the nervous system, which controls every function in your body. By doing an in-depth analysis of your brain and spine, the exact location of the dysfunction and miscommunication causing your symptoms to appear, can be identified.
So, why start with the brain? Your nervous system is the master control system for your body, responsible for sending messages to every muscle, cell, tissue and organ. Now that’s a stressful job! If one of those messages gets interrupted or even “fails-to-send,” the result is some sort of dysfunction, which could cause a symptom to arise.
A misalignment or subluxation can cause nerve interference that result in symptoms from headaches, to aches/pain, to digestive issues, to loss of movement and everything in between. What’s important to note here is that where you notice or feel the outward symptom is not necessarily where the cause of the issue is rooted.
Symptoms are your body’s way of signally something is not functioning properly. Simply put, they are a red flag and shouldn’t be masked or dismissed!
Four Main Technologies in Neurologically-based Chiropractic
Utilizing four main technologies, neurologically-based chiropractic can assess your body for stress or pain and correct it, allowing your body to heal from the inside out, naturally. Here are the four technologies often used in addressing internal dysfunction:
Neurological Evaluation
Using thermal-infrared technology, your entire spine and nervous system are assessed to find miscommunications between your brain and body.
Muscle Assessment
Your muscles are evaluated using surface electromyography or sEMG to see how they are responding and contracting along your spine. sEMG is the exact same technology as an EKG for your heart, but this is for your muscles.
Spinal Exam
A full spinal examination will help identify where structural shifts and subluxations may have occurred.
Digital X-Rays
Lastly, using a state-of-the-art, digital x-ray system, any curves, degeneration or loss of disc space in your spine can be found, which can’t be detected during the other evaluations.
These four technologies, allow chiropractors to locate where each and every one of these misalignments or subluxations are located. This provides the ability to administer a very gentle, specific, chiropractic adjustment realigning your bones back into proper position, taking pressure off the nerves, and restoring the
communication from your brain to your body.
The goal isn’t to provide you with a temporary fix, but a long-term solution! So, if you are suffering from pain in any form, consider chiropractic care as a natural and effective approach to your health.
